I had an interesting week in the field. I had to leave on Tuesday night before the parents arrived to do some training. When I returned on Wednesday night I was fully immersed into the chaos and old habits of the group. This short time with the group lead to me checking my reactionariness and sharp tongue. It dawned on me that I was mentally checking myself more than an instructor could.
So I guess it is time for a change. So I have applied to be a ski patroller at park city. Just waiting to hear about an interview and all the rest. It will be a huge adjustment. Meeting new people who know what there doing. The up side is throwing bombs for avalanches, skiing everyday, doing manual labor and starting days at the early AM. I'm excited for the craziness of the change.
Its been such a hard wait for winter that Richard, my roommate, and I hike for 10 hours and 8000 feet elevation gain and lose to ski 700 feet of the worst snow I have skied. The novelty of skiing in September. Utah is a great place to play. This trip lead me to really think about pursing a more adventurous mountain life. If all is well things can be really chaotic, fun, stressful and very adventurous. Wish me luck.
Hope all is well with all of you talk to you later.
Bring on winter, I second that! It's getting colder up here in Maine each night. Although, I won't have nearly the adventures you'll have or will be seeking, getting up early on a sunny, snowy, Wednesday for a day of downhill at Sunday River will be my paradise this winter. And then comes March in Banff!
